Facing the khatib or the qibla during the khutba

Question

What harm is there if the listeners, in order to listen to the Friday khutba, listen to it facing the qibla rather than turning their faces towards the khatib? Will such an act be a cause of being deprived of additional reward?

Answer

There is no harm at all; rather, this act is better: [ar]قال شمس الأئمة: من كان أمام الإمام استقبل بوجهه، ومن كان عن يمين الإمام أو يساره انحرف إلى الإمام. وقال السرخسي: الرسم في زماننا استقبال القبلة وترك استقبالهم الخطيب، لما يلحقهم من الحرج بتسوية الصفوف بعد فراغ الخطيب من خطبته لكثرة الزحام، قال: وهذا أحسن اهـ الطحطاوي ص ٢٨.
