Du‘a in the course of the khutba of the Jumu‘a prayer
Question
What is the limit of du‘a? In “Khutubat-i Maw‘iza” (“Sermons of Admonition”), in the first khutba of the month of Rabi‘ al-Awwal, it is mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ forbade du‘a (?), and it is written that it should have a limit. What is its limit?
Answer
To ask in du‘a for something to which a person has no right is exceeding the limit; asking for what is impermissible is forbidden. It does not mean that making du‘a at length is forbidden; rather, as long as the heart is engaged, one should remain turned to du‘a and should strive to make the heart attentive.
