Responding to the Second Adhan and the Du'a after It

Question

Is it permissible to respond to the second adhan of Jumu'a and to recite the du'a after the adhan, or not?

Answer

He should neither respond with the tongue nor recite the du'a [with the tongue]; rather, he should respond in his heart and recite the du'a in his heart as well: [ar]قال: وينبغي أن لا يجيب بلسانه اتفاقًا في الأذان بين يدي الخطيب[/ar] “He said: and one should not — by agreement — respond with the tongue to the adhan [given] before the khatib” (al-Durr al-Mukhtar, p. 415).
