A jujube branch in the grave
Question
At the time of burying the deceased, people place a stick of jujube wood [in the grave]. Is this correct? It is commonly held that the angels take this stick and question [the deceased].
Answer
Placing a stick of jujube wood at the burial of the deceased is not established by the noble Shari‘a. The belief that the angels take the jujube stick and ask questions is wrong; it is necessary (lazim) to refrain from this.
