Remuneration for treating jinn and ghost possession

Question

Question: Zayd calls himself an exorcist and claims to drive out jinn, evil spirits, ghosts and possession; he holds Deobandi beliefs. He says that he has several spirits at his command. For everyone who comes to him he identifies some kind of influence, and with each of them he fixes a price for the treatment. No treatment of Zayd’s costs less than three hundred rupees, and it goes up to 400 rupees; and he explains that treatment cannot be done for less than this sum.

Answer

The existence of jinn is established by the Qur’an and the hadiths, and there is also a treatment for it. The Prophet ﷺ too prescribed treatment: there was a jinn in the house of Abu Dujana ﵁ that troubled him, and he ﷺ prescribed a treatment for it. Taking remuneration for treatment is also permissible, just as traditional physicians and doctors take remuneration.
