Payment for an amulet
Question
Question: If an imam, dealing in amulets with written words and charm threads, takes payment for it, saying, “Your affair will be accomplished,” and the person’s affair is not accomplished, so that the person defames him and speaks ill of the scholars — what is the ruling on taking this?
Answer
If the imam is versed in this art, then taking payment for an amulet is proper; but he must by no means promise, “Your affair will certainly be accomplished” — just as a doctor takes money from a patient for medicine, not for the patient’s being certainly cured: cure lies in the power and might of Allah Most High.
