Is ‘Umra also performed in Madinah the Illuminated?

Question

Should ‘Umra also be performed in Madinah the Illuminated, just as it is performed in Makkah the Honoured? Zayd says that it should be performed in Madinah too. Is Zayd’s statement correct or wrong?

Answer

Two acts are performed in ‘Umra: the first is the tawaf of the House of Allah, and the second is the sa‘y between Safa and Marwa. Both of these acts take place only in Makkah the Honoured.
