Exchanging Hajj currency notes at a lower or higher value
Question
It is the practice of the governments of many countries that the government there gives the pilgrims a special kind of currency note for their expenses in Saudi Arabia, which sells in Saudi Arabia at a high price. Would it then be permissible to sell the hundred-rupee Hajj note for other notes of that country at a lower or higher value?
Answer
Those notes are given to be used in Saudi Arabia; to put them into circulation in one’s own country at a higher price is not permissible. Editor’s note: for legally, doing so means putting one’s own life in danger.
