Conditions of Hajj Badal
Question
My wife's bone is broken; she is in extreme pain and has great difficulty moving about. The mu'allim (the pilgrims' guide in Mecca) says that you can have her Hajj performed by some person from Makka al-Mukarrama. Is this correct, and what are its conditions? Please inform.
Answer
If Hajj was fard upon a person and he made a bequest, and one third of his estate suffices for Hajj, then the Hajj should be arranged on his behalf from his homeland; if there is not that much, then it should be arranged from wherever it suffices. It is better (afdal)
