Information Concerning Hajj Badal
Question
(1) What is called Hajj badal? (2) Which kind of Hajj is Hajj badal, that is, qiran or ifrad? (3) A person has been residing in Saudi Arabia for quite a long time for employment. Can he perform Hajj badal for one of his deceased elders?
Answer
(1) Hajj performed on behalf of another person is Hajj badal. (2) If the person on whom Hajj was fard made a bequest (wasiyya), then the Hajj badal should be performed as ifrad. If he did not, and the aim is to convey reward (thawab) to him of one's own accord, then qiran is better (afdal). (3) He may perform Hajj and convey the reward.
