Is Shaving the Head Required After 'Umra? And Repeated 'Umra in the Months of Hajj

Question

(1) Zayd is employed in Jeddah and performs 'Umra almost every week. After the 'Umra he has his hair cut with a fine clipping machine and does not shave it with a razor, because he read in the book Mu'allim al-Hujjaj (معلم الحجاج, “The Pilgrims' Instructor”) that trimming the hair is permitted, although shaving is more virtuous. Every week after the 'Umra he has his hair clipped close with the machine, and in this way he has performed many 'Umras.

Answer

(1) If the machine is such that it cuts even the very shortest hair, then no remedy is needed now: all the 'Umras have become valid. However, in such a situation the precaution is that he should pass a razor over. 'Umra is not confined to the days of Hajj; it is permissible throughout the rest of the year as well.
