‘Umra Performed Before the Months of Hajj Does Not Make It Tamattu‘
Question
Question: If a pilgrim, before the days of Hajj, performing Hajj tamattu‘, entered the ihram of ‘Umra, came into the Haram and carried out all the acts of the ‘Umra, will his Hajj tamattu‘ be valid, or will he have to perform the ‘Umra again in the days of Hajj, and only then will his Hajj tamattu‘ be correct?
Answer
If he performed the ‘Umra before the months of Hajj began, that is, before the beginning of Shawwal, and then performed the Hajj, it will not be tamattu‘. Tamattu‘ occurs when he performs the ‘Umra in the months of Hajj, leaves ihram, and then enters ihram for the Hajj and performs the Hajj.
