Ifrad or Qiran in Hajj Badal

Question

Question: (1) If Hajj badal (proxy Hajj) is performed on behalf of a deceased person who did not specify any type of Hajj, which form is appropriate? (2) If ifrad is to be performed in the Hajj badal, how is it to set out on a ship that sails before the blessed month of Ramadan and then enter the ihram of the Hajj days from the miqat? (3) How is it to go from Bombay to Jeddah and from Jeddah to Madinah without ihram, and then, in the days of Hajj, taking up the Hajj badal, to come having entered the ihram of ifrad?

Answer

(1) Ifrad should be performed. (2) It is correct. (3) It is correct. (4) When the obligatory (fard) Hajj is to be performed as badal under a bequest (wasiyya), tamattu‘ should not be performed; there is latitude for qiran, but the dam of qiran will be binding upon the proxy (ma’mur).
