Which Comes First: A Daughter’s Marriage or Hajj?

Question

Hajj has become fard upon a certain person, but his daughter has reached marriageable age. In this situation, should he first perform Hajj or first arrange his daughter’s marriage, given that arranging the marriage would require postponing Hajj?

Answer

He should not delay or postpone Hajj because of this. The requirements that present-day customs and conventions have made obligatory for a wedding are, for the most part, such that they are not required by the Sacred Law — rather, they are impermissible according to it. The sunna way of conducting a marriage should be looked up in Tuhfat al-Zawjayn and other Urdu booklets.
