Where are the Moon and the Sun?

Question: What is the definition of the sky (heaven)? Is the heaven encompassing (hawi) or not? Also, where are the Moon and the Sun located? Can an “encompassing body” (حاوی جسم) (?) reach the Moon or the heaven or not?

Answer

These matters (the definition of the heaven, whether it is encompassing or not, and the location of the Moon and the Sun) are neither among matters of creed (i‘tiqadiyyat), on which the completeness of faith would depend, nor among the subsidiary matters (furu‘), on which the deeds of the legally responsible (mukallaf) would depend.
