Is the Earth moving or stationary?

Question

Question: Is the Earth moving or stationary? Is the Sun stationary or moving? Can both the Earth and the Sun be moving?

Answer

The Shari‘a has not explicitly discussed whether the Earth and the Sun are moving or stationary, nor is any issue of belief or of the subsidiary rulings (furu‘) connected with it. Whether either of them moves or is stationary has no bearing on any issue of the Shari‘a. Getting involved in these debates is a waste of time. Every single breath is precious.
