Question: Do rational proofs have a place in the Shari‘a or not?

Answer

Sound reason recognizes the wisdoms (hikam) and purposes (masalih) of the rulings of the Shari‘a, and knows the goodness and badness (husn wa qubh) of commands and prohibitions, that is, the goodness of what is commanded and the badness of what is prohibited, as is found in Sharh al-Tahrir.
