Do parents receive the reward for good deeds done in childhood?
Question
If the reward for a good deed and the punishment for a bad deed done in childhood fall upon the parents, does this rule apply to the rights of Allah, or also to the rights of people (huquq al-‘ibad)?
Answer
For all the good deeds the children have done, they themselves are deserving of the reward; the parents will receive the reward for education and upbringing. Moreover, the parents are responsible for education and upbringing, and they will be taken to account for whatever shortcoming they commit in it.
