If he obeys his mother, his father is displeased
Question
Zayd’s parents are alive. Zayd’s mother says, “Work at home,” and his father says, “Go to Delhi and work there,” and in Delhi the income is greater. If he obeys his mother, his father stops speaking to him, and if he obeys his father, his mother stops speaking to him. What should he do now: give preference to his mother’s word, or to his father’s?
Answer
If, staying at home, he cannot make a living and the hardship is great, he should go away and work elsewhere, and explain to his mother: “Do not be upset; I will earn money and bring it for you.” And he should also keep praying that Allah Most High keeps their hearts pleased with him.
