A Salawat Gathering Every Thursday and the Distribution of Sweets
Question
Every Thursday, without fail, after the ‘Isha prayer a gathering for reciting salawat is held after announcing it, and without any compulsion one or two gentlemen gladly distribute sweets on their own behalf — surely there is no harm in that? And how is all this [as a whole]? If appropriate, please write down some other, better way of practising salawat.
Answer
This binding to a day — every Thursday — binding to a time — after the ‘Isha prayer — and holding the gathering with tada‘i (public announcement and summoning) is not transmitted from the pious predecessors: neither from the Companions, nor the Tabi‘in, nor the hadith scholars, nor the jurists.
