Holding a Gathering for Reciting Salawat

Question

What is the ruling on holding a salawat gathering weekly, or on two days a week? And what about taking part in it oneself and reciting salawat? Kindly inform us of the answer in plain words.

Answer

Salawat is a matter of the highest degree of nearness [to Allah] and of countless reward and recompense; moreover, it is a right that lies as an obligation upon every member of the Umma. However, holding dedicated gatherings for it is not established.
