Reciting Salawat Loudly at a Sermon

Question

Is it correct, in a gathering of preaching and admonition, to recite salawat in a loud voice and also to perform qiyam (standing) at the end, or not?

Answer

Reciting salawat is a cause of blessing and a means of reward, but reciting it by shouting and making a din is forbidden, because it is a du‘a, and in du‘a the basic rule is concealment (ikhfa). In “al-Durr al-Mukhtar” it says: [ar]لِحَدِيثِ «مَنْ ذُكِرْتُ عِنْدَهُ فَلْيَحْفَظْ»، وَإِزْعَاجُ الْأَعْضَاءِ بِرَفْعِ الصَّوْتِ جَهْلٌ. اهـ.
