“Salla Allahu ‘Alayka Ya Rasul Allah”
Question
Some ulama call it impermissible and a bid‘a to lead the recitation of the “salat”, that is [the formula] “Salla Allahu ‘alayka ya Rasul Allah, ‘alayka ya Habib Allah…” (صلى الله عليك يا رسول الله، عليك يا حبيب الله الخ), and instead regard the recitation of the Salawat Ibrahimi as [a matter of] reward and greater merit. Therefore please explain: what is the status of the aforesaid “salat” as a salawat?
Answer
Reciting the Salawat Ibrahimi is correct in every place and brings reward. As for [the words] “al-salatu wa-l-salamu ‘alayka ya Rasul Allah” (الصلاة والسلام عليك يا رسول الله), they should be recited when one has arrived in Madina the Pure and stands before the Sacred Rawda [of the Prophet] ﷺ.
