The Deceased Being Tormented by the Weeping of the Living
Question
What torments does the deceased suffer on account of weeping over him?
Answer
The hadith which says that the deceased is punished on account of the weeping of his family means this: that the deceased had bequeathed that niyaha (loud lamentation) be performed for him, or was content with lamentation, or knew of his household that they would lament and yet did not forbid them, and the like. In short, this is how the scholars have explained its meaning.
