An Objection to a Na‘t (a Poem in Praise of the Prophet ﷺ) by Hazrat Mawlana Muhammad Qasim Nanotawi
Question
(1) Salim says: seeking help from anyone other than Allah is impermissible. Kalim says: our leader Mawlana Muhammad Qasim Nanotawi wrote in his “Qasa’id-e Qasimi” (“The Odes of Qasim”): [ar]مدد کر اے کرم احمدی کہ تیرے سوا ٭ نہیں ہے قاسم بے کس کا کوئی حامی کار[/ar] “Help, O generosity of Ahmad, for besides you ٭ helpless Qasim has no helper in his affairs.” If it were not permissible, why did he become a seeker of the generosity of Ahmad? Is Salim’s statement correct, or Kalim’s? (2)
Answer
(1) The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is present in his most pure grave and is alive. The salat and salam of the umma are presented in his most sacred presence through the angels, and whatever is submitted near his most sacred rawda he hears himself. Therefore it is not correct to draw an analogy between others — that is, non-prophets — and the Prophet.
