Supplicating Through the Wasila of the Prophet ﷺ
Question
A certain person absolutely does not agree with supplicating [Allah] through the intermediation of Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ. What is the status of such a manner of supplication? He says: whatever is to be asked should be asked from God alone — even a shoe-strap and the like. Well, there is no denying that; but [then] this wasila (intermediation) is not necessary, and the matter is accomplished without a wasila too — so are we, who ask through a wasila, as it were committing shirk?
Answer
If a person supplicates Allah the Truth without a wasila, that too is correct. And if a person supplicates Allah the Truth thus — “O Allah, fulfil this need of mine through the intermediation of Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ” — that too is permissible, and to call it shirk is wrong.
