Forms of Isal al-Thawab and Tawassul

Question

A kind of dispute has arisen between me and my father regarding nadhr and niyaz (vows, and votive food offerings made in the name of saints), vowed requests and the seeking of wishes in connection with the noble awliya; I request you to resolve it. And if you have written any book on this subject, kindly write its name and price so that it can be ordered. My father says: since the noble awliya are the friends of Allah, His chosen, righteous servants, we make them our representatives (wakils)

Answer

The rank of the noble awliya is indeed very high, and the honour and inviolability of every Muslim are obligatory. Conveying reward (isal al-thawab) in the manner of the Sacred Law, without any restriction that is not established, is correct and beneficial.
