“If I eat red-lentil stew, then may I eat swine”
Question
Question: I was about seven years old at the time when I swore that I would not eat red-lentil stew. The details are that my sister had cooked red-lentil stew; I said: “There is a puppy in the lentil stew.” She said: “If you eat it, may you eat swine.” I said: “If I eat it, may I eat swine.” That sister is in Pakistan, and I am going to Pakistan. If red-lentil stew is placed before me there, what should I do?
Answer
You may eat red-lentil stew there without hesitation: because of what was said at that time, red-lentil stew has not become haram for you, nor did an oath come about.
