Giving zakat to the Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam

Question

May zakat money be given to the fund of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam (an organization of religious scholars) or not?

Answer

(2) If it spends it on the poor and destitute (ghuraba’ and masakin) by way of tamlik (transfer of ownership), then it is permissible to give to it; otherwise not. If the owner himself gives it to some poor person, and that person, after taking possession of it as its owner, of his own accord gives it to the said Jamiat, that is permissible.
