Paying off a sayyid’s debt from zakat

Question

Zayd is a sayyid by lineage and is in debt to ‘Umar. Bakr is an owner of the nisab. If he pays off Zayd’s debt from zakat money in such a way that he gives the zakat money to ‘Umar and informs Zayd of it, is this permissible? And will Bakr’s zakat be discharged or not?

Answer

In this way the debt will be paid off, but the zakat will not be discharged.
