A sayyid’s zakat to a sayyid

Question

May a wealthy sayyid give zakat to his poor, destitute sayyid relatives or not? If a sayyid student is on a journey, may he eat and drink something from zakat property or not?

Answer

It is impermissible; this is what is correct and right: [ar]ولا إلى بني هاشم، ظاهر المذهب إطلاق المنع، وقول العيني: والهاشمي يجوز له دفع زكاته لمثله، صوابه: لا يجوز. نهر[/ar] “Nor to the Banu Hashim. The manifest position of the madhhab (zahir al-madhhab)
