The Madrasa’s Tenants Make Musical Instruments: Meeting the Madrasa’s Expenses from This Income

Question

Question: Most of the tenants of the madrasa’s property are people whose work is making or having made musical instruments, or selling them. There are also two or three tenants whose trade is something else. In this case, is it permissible to use the rent that comes from the property for the madrasa’s expenses, the teachers’ salaries, construction and the like, or not? If it is not permissible, what is the way to make it permissible?

Answer

Making and selling musical instruments is makruh. The income from it is not at the level of haram but at the level of makruh. The overall income from the rent may be spent on the needs of the madrasa.
