Building an Eidgah for the Sake of Fame
Question
The mutawalli (trustee) says: “I will build in the Eidgah (open ground for the Eid prayer) with my own money, but have my name inscribed on the Eidgah.” The request is: what is the ruling on inscribing the name of the person who had the construction done on the Eidgah?
Answer
Building an Eidgah to please Allah the Pure is a deed of great reward. For the builder to inscribe his own name on it, or to impose this as a condition, for the sake of renown and fame will destroy its reward. The respected Mutawalli Pasha should not do so; he should repent of such an intention and seek forgiveness (tawba and istighfar)
