The Difference Between an Eidgah and a Mosque; a School, Madrasa, Thoroughfare and Games in the Eidgah
Question
Is the Sharʿi ruling on an Eidgah (the ground for the Eid prayer) exactly the ruling on a mosque? If there is some difference between them, what is that difference? In any case, what is the ruling on establishing a school or a religious madrasa within the boundaries of the Eidgah? Is it permissible or not for a public thoroughfare for people and cattle to pass through the boundaries of the Eidgah, and for children to play and romp there?
Answer
With respect to the permissibility of following the imam (iqtida’), the Eidgah has the ruling of a mosque; in the remaining rulings it does not have the ruling of a mosque, but rather the ruling of the mosque precincts (fina), a madrasa and the like.
