Roofing an Eidgah; Building a Hospital and the Like in a Disused Eidgah
Question
A certain advocate drew up a six-page preamble and after it framed the following questions, which are set out below: (1) Is an Eidgah (the ground for the Eid prayer) a mosque? (2) Does the Eidgah come under the ruling of a mosque only at that specific time when the gathering of the two Eids is held here? (3) Apart from the gatherings of the two Eids, what is the status of the Eidgah, and at such a time does it come within the definition of open wasteland, where work may be carried on? (4)
Answer
(1–6) Performing the prayer of the two Eids by going outside the populated area into an open (unroofed) field is sunna and mustahabb; in it there is a greater display of the might of Islam. It should be performed before the sun becomes intense.
