Worldly Talk in the Mosque

Question

How is it to engage in worldly talk inside the mosque? It is written in Khizanat al-Muftin that whoever engages in worldly talk in the mosque, Allah Most High destroys his deeds of forty days — what does this mean?

Answer

The place that has been designated for prayer, which it is forbidden to enter without ghusl, is the mosque. One should go there for prayer, recitation of the Qur’an and dhikr. There is a threat of punishment (wa‘id) for sitting there to engage in worldly talk. The threat you have quoted is open to question.
