A Madrasa’s Passage Through the Mosque
Question
A madrasa adjoins a mosque, and its passage is through the inside of the mosque, that is, through the mosque’s own door. Should the passage to this madrasa be separate from the mosque or not?
Answer
If the madrasa is connected with the mosque itself, and its door cannot be made on another side, then out of necessity it will be permitted to come and go through the mosque; in such a situation Shami has allowed latitude for passing through the mosque. If a passage can be made on another side, then the passage should be made on the other side — this is more cautious (ahwat).
