Asking for Some of the Mosque’s Materials
Question
If someone asks for one or two chhatanks (a unit of weight, 1/16 of a ser, ≈ 58 g) of the mosque’s materials, such as cement, whitewash lime, paint and the like, is this permissible or not?
Answer
There is no right to take a thing belonging to the mosque without payment and without paying its price — neither with permission nor without permission. A thing meant to be let out for hire may rightly be taken on hire for payment, and a thing meant to be sold may rightly be taken on paying its price.
