Compensating the Mosque’s Money with a Sum Taken as an Interest-Bearing Loan
Question
A man held on deposit money entrusted to him (amana) by the mosque, and he spent it. This trustee (amin) then took an interest-bearing loan from another man and returned the mosque’s entrusted money. Will it be permissible to spend this money on the mosque?
Answer
The loan that has been taken on interest — that loan money is not haram, and giving it as compensation (daman) for the mosque’s money is proper. However, paying the money that will be paid as interest along with the loan is impermissible.
