Placing a stone engraved with a name on a mosque
Question
Is it permissible, after building a mosque on behalf of a deceased person, to put up a stone engraved with his name or not?
Answer
Having a mosque built for conveying reward (isal al-thawab), and having an inscription engraved on a stone and put up with the intention that others may be inspired to deeds of this kind, or that someone, seeing this stone, may specifically convey reward to the deceased, is correct; but having the name engraved for the sake of fame is not correct.
