Pictures of the Kaʿba and the Prophet’s Mosque hung in a mosque

Question

In a mosque a picture of the Kaʿba hangs on one side and one of the Prophet’s Mosque on the other. What is the ruling on putting up or hanging such a picture in a mosque? And in particular, what is the ruling on hanging it on the right side, considering this necessary?

Answer

Putting up such pictures and inscriptions in a mosque, or making such ornamentation and decorative designs on the mosque wall that draw the attention of those praying towards them, is makruh; and considering it necessary is altogether wrong and false.
