Removing this calligraphic inscription from the mihrab

Question

(1) If the imam stands directly in front of this calligraphic inscription, is there any harm in the prayer? (2) Taking into account the overall status and nature of the calligraphic inscription, kindly state whether it should be removed from the mihrab or not. (3) Should one pray behind those imams who are in favour of keeping this calligraphic inscription as it is, or not? Or would it be better to pray in another mosque?

Answer

(1) Everyone’s prayer will be valid, especially since a curtain hangs over it: it is not before the eyes, its worship is not intended, and there is not even an impression of that. (2) It should be removed completely and immediately, but in such a way that no fitna (strife) arises: explain the ruling gently and give counsel. (3)
