Writing Qur’anic verses and the like on the mosque wall

Commonly, Qur’anic verses, hadiths, or the blessed names of the Rightly Guided Caliphs and of the ten Companions given the glad tidings of Paradise are written on the walls of mosques. To what extent is this correct?
