Moving a mosque to another place

Question

In Bengal, in a certain place, there was a mosque in which the Jumu‘a used to be prayed. Now nobody comes to pray in this Jami‘ mosque, and if anyone does come, it is only one or two men. And close to it there is another village where many people live; they want to move it and take it to their place.

Answer

Since some people still come to this first mosque to pray, moving it to some other mosque is not permissible. However, if, because the population near this mosque is small, the Jumu‘a prayer is prayed in another mosque near which the population is larger, there is no harm in that, provided that the conditions of the Jumu‘a are also fulfilled there.
