Exchanging a mosque for another mosque

Question

The authorities of the Poona Corporation are of the view that when a mosque comes in the way of a road, the Corporation will purchase an alternative site for it with its own funds and build it according to your plan — you pray in it, you will like it — and we will demolish the said mosque that lies in the road and build the road. Can this be done? For a mosque remains a mosque for ever and ever — or can some latitude be found?

Answer

All mosques belong to Allah; no one has the right either to demolish them or to exchange them: [ar]إِنَّ ٱلْمَسَـٰجِدَ لِلَّهِ[/ar] “Indeed, the mosques belong to Allah.”
