Transferring an old mosque to a new mosque

Question

(1) In a certain quarter people have long been offering the Friday prayer, and this mosque was situated at the edge of that quarter. Now the people have begun offering the Friday prayer in another quarter and have completely demolished the first mosque; however, they have not made a public road there, but have enclosed it on all four sides.

Answer

Demolishing one mosque and transferring it to another mosque is not permissible. However, if the first is old and deserted, and moreover there is no longer any need for it, and there is fear that its materials will go to waste, then transferring it to another mosque is correct (thus in Radd al-Muhtar, vol. 3, p. 575). (2) The answer has also become clear from No. 1.
