The aqiqa of the Prophet ﷺ
Question
In many books of fiqh, such as “Masa’il al-Arba‘in” and others, it is written permission to perform it on the 7th/11th/21st day, month, year and so on. Some religious scholars cite as an example that our noble master ﷺ performed his own aqiqa after prophethood, and so, they say, it may be done whenever one wishes throughout one’s life.
Answer
In “Sharh Sifr al-Sa‘ada”, p. 483, it is likewise written that the Prophet ﷺ did not know about his own aqiqa, and therefore performed his own aqiqa. Hafiz Ibn Hajar cited this narration in “Fath al-Bari Sharh al-Bukhari”, vol. 9, p. 584, and criticised its isnad.
