The aqiqa meat for the child’s parents
Question
May the child’s parents and all his ascendants and descendants (usul wa furu‘) eat of the aqiqa meat or not? If not, of what degree is the contravention? And if they may eat it, is it with some reprehensibility (karaha) or without it? In the treatise on the aqiqa written by Hazrat Mawlana Nizamuddin it is written on p.
Answer
Nothing explicit regarding this question is transmitted from our three imams; the books of fiqh are generally silent about it; the noble hadith also makes no mention of it. The basis on which it has been called makruh has the status not of a Shar‘i proof, but merely of a fine point and an elegant conceit (latifa) — nothing more.
