The Martyrdom of Hazrat ‘Uthman Ghani
Question
Why did Hazrat ‘Uthman Ghani ibn ‘Affan ﵁, having summoned his cousin Marwan ibn al-Hakam to Medina, make him his complete confidant, while the Muslims, weary of the troubles caused by Marwan, demanded that Hazrat ‘Uthman Ghani either hand Marwan over to the Muslims or step down from the caliphate — yet Hazrat ‘Uthman Ghani accepted neither of these two conditions, and in the end the people besieged his house and put him to death?
Answer
This question has four parts. (1) Why did Hazrat ‘Uthman make Marwan his complete confidant? The answer is that, in his view, Marwan was competent and trustworthy for this. (2) Why did he not hand him over to the people?
