Did Hazrat ‘Ali’s Beard Reach His Navel

Question

Did the beard of Hazrat ‘Ali ﵁ and Hazrat Dihya ﵁ [reach] down to the navel? What should its [permissible] measure be?

Answer

It is not permissible to trim the beard before it reaches [the length of] one fistful. After one fistful there are two opinions; the correct one is that the part exceeding one fistful may be trimmed. This is established from the noble Prophet ﷺ and the noble Companions ﵃. Thus the sunna is [precisely] one fistful, and a slight excess beyond that is also not objectionable.
